Chapter III: errors codified in the doctrines of both Roman Catholicism and Mormonism
Here is a basic, but not exhaustive list of the main aberrations from the gospel of Christ that are common to both belief systems — relying on their own words.
1. The sufficiency of the Holy Bible to deliver the message of salvation.
The biblical text is well-preserved, sufficient in itself to communicate the message of salvation. The Holy Spirit is the authoritative teacher of the church (John 14:26, 16:13). Revelation is entrusted to Christians and every Christian, aided by the Holy Spirit, has the ability, the right and the responsibility to interpret Scripture (Acts 17:11, I Corinthians 2:12-16, Jude 3). Only God is infallible (Numbers 23:19).
(John 20:30-31) “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
(II Timothy 3:14-17) “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God [Greek theopneustos: God-breathed, inspired] and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
